The Marbeck series, set in the early 1600s and featuring a spy or 'intelligencer', is going well. The first book, Marbeck and the Double-Dealer (Severn House, 2012) earned star reviews, Booklist describing it as 'a 17th century James Bond'. Book 2, Marbeck and the King-in-Waiting and Book 3, Marbeck and the Privateers, are also thriving. So look out for Book 4, Marbeck and the Gunpowder Plot, to be published in May.

Having recently finished teaching an enjoyable weekly course in Shakespearean Theatre, I'm now gathering ideas for my next project. You can also see my blog piece On the Jesuit Trail on the Royal Literary Fund's website ( from April 12th - click on 'Collected'.
